Joseph P. Messina
Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs & Provost
Dr. Joseph P. Messina serves as Louisiana State University’s (LSU) Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs & Provost and the Chief Academic Officer for the research enterprise, which includes the flagship campus in Baton Rouge, the LSU Agricultural Center, LSU Health New Orleans, LSU Health Shreveport, and Pennington Biomedical Research Center.
As Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs & Provost, Dr. Messina oversees the flagship university’s academic programs, faculty affairs, enrollment management, and student success initiatives in support of LSU's mission as a leading public research university. As Chief Academic Officer, Dr. Messina works closely with Chancellor James T. Dalton and the Senior Vice Chancellors to advance a unified academic and research vision across the statewide research enterprise.

Academic Enterprise
The Office of Academic Affairs supports the Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs & Provost in ensuring university excellence in learning, discovery, and engagement. The office works closely with the faculty senate and the president to advance LSU using a shared governance model. We also make communication and transparency a hallmark of the office. Lastly, the essence of our academic core--our faculty and staff--are preeminent in everything we do.



LSU ELEMENTS & DISCOVERY
LSU's faculty information system, Elements, allows for robust faculty activity data collection, maintenance and reporting on the teaching, research and service activities while the Discovery Module provides an interface for faculty collaboration and integration which allows collaborators to connect with faculty.
